Overview

Schedule

Upcycle Craft and Designs (UCD1) – Tuesday 4:00pm- 6:00pm & Friday 2:30pm-4:30pm

Introduction

“Trash to Treasure and Turnover.”

Participants will be exposed to tips and techniques to repurpose unwanted items and materials like tyres, wine bottles, wooden pallets, cement, old towels, used sheets and old jeans. This initiative will result in creative projects such as wine bottle lamps, ottomans, pet beds, stepping stones and garden planters.

Additionally, participants will learn to create a concrete fountain, cement vase, a wine bottle gift bag and a shoulder bag from old jeans and a rolling beach cart from a used clothes basket.

Participants are provided with opportunities to equip themselves with the knowledge, skills and competencies required to generate an income and become self-sustainable.

Justification

Upcycling is not recycling where a new item is created by destroying the original piece. Upcycling seek to creatively repurpose unused, unwanted,  old, or waste items  into useful, valuable, refashioned, practical and creative but high quality finished products

It stimulates the participants’ thought processes to create something different from the original unused items thus aiding in relaxing and boosting one’s confidence. A social impact of upcycling is the eradication of pollution contributing to saving the environment and reducing our carbon footprint by repurposing discarded items (trash) into viable products.

This course is designed to develop and provide participants with opportunities to equip them with the necessary tools necessary enabling them to develop marketable skills, become employable, and encourage entrepreneurial development and the use of best practices.

On completion of this course, participants would have developed basic knowledge as to reuse and upcycle seemingly useless and unproductive discarded objects and materials in such a manner so as to repurpose it into a product of higher quality or purpose and value than the original in a social and environmental sense.
