Fashion Jewellery Making FJM – Tuesday & Thursday 4:00pm – 6:00pm

Introduction

This course aims at introducing students to the basic techniques in the craft of jewellery making using the various types of materials such as beads, paper,wires, metals, stringing materials, tools and findings used in the craft.  The course is designed for students with little or no experience in jewellery making. Participants will be introduced to a different technique each session while at the same time creating earrings, bracelets and necklaces.

Motivation   

This course is designed to provide participants with the basic knowledge and creative skills so as to equip them with the tools and techniques necessary for becoming a skilled hobbyist or  enabling them  to develop marketable skills, or become employable thus  encouraging entrepreneurial development using best practices of this craft.

At the end of this course, participants should be able to: 

  • Identify and use the various tools used in jewellery making
  • Identify and characterize the various types of materials, their shapes and sizes
  • Use the techniques learnt to create pieces of jewellery
  • Understand design essentials, effective pricing, marketing, branding and presenting handcrafted jewellery

Entry Requirements  

Individuals interested in participating must be fifteen (15) years and over and posses:

  1. Two (2) valid forms of picture Identification (Identification Card / Passport ).
  2. A digital device and internet access for virtual learning.

  • Module 4:  Bracelets and Anklets: Different Styles/Designs/Accents Bracelets and Anklets: Two Stringing Methods 
  • Module 5: Bracelets and Anklets: Linking Method and Charm Design Bracelets and Anklets: Memory Wire Method 
  • Module 6:  Necklaces: Different Styles/Designs/Endings/ Necklaces: Stringing Method with Pendent and Cluster Design using the Stringing Method

N.B. Each Module consists of two (2) classes / four (4) hours

Course Cost

Tuition is free of charge, but trainees are required to provide their own training materials and equipment.

Assessment Structure  

A model of continuous in-course assessment coupled with a final assessment project is proposed for this course. Trainees will be assessed at different intervals over the training period as continuous assessment is focused to reduce anxiety with respect to the finality of testing.
