Curtain, Linen and Draperies (CLD1) – Tuesday & Thursday 4:00pm -6:00pm

Introduction

Participants will be introduced to basic curtains, linen and draperies such as priscilla, valances, swags, blinds, tails, panels, flat and fitted sheets, pillow cases, sham cases and table linens. This course provides participants with the knowledge, skills and competencies required to encourage skills development, domestic savings and entrepreneurial development.  

Motivation

This course is designed to develop the participants with the knowledge and skills to equip them with the tools necessary to develop marketable skills for employment, encourage entrepreneurial development and the use of best practices. 

Objectives 

The aim of this course is to provide participants with the basic knowledge, skills and techniques required for Curtain, Linen and Draperies that can promote skills development / entrepreneurial development. 

At the end of this course, students should be able to: 

• Identify, select and construct a variety of decorative curtains, linen and drapery
• Appreciate the decorative value that can be added through the use of good quality and attractive curtain, linen and draperies
• Estimate quantities and cost of items for jobs
• Demonstrate satisfactory skill and produce quality items in the construction of Curtain, Linen and Draperies

Entry Requirements  

Individuals interested in participating must be fifteen (15) years and over and possess:

1. Two (2) valid forms of picture Identification (Identification Card / Passport ).
2. A digital device and internet access for virtual learning.

 Course Structure 

Course Modules

• Module 1:   Introduction to Curtain, Linen and Drapery / Tools and Equipment/ Health & Safety
• Module 2: Basic Elements of Curtains/ Panels and Priscilla/Seams and Finishes
• Module 3:  Basic Elements of Draperies/ Double Pleats, French Pleats and Inverted Pleats
• Module 4: Linen/Covering, Flat and Fitted Sheets 
• Module 5: Linen/Bed Skirts/Dust Ruffles
• Module 6: Final Evaluation/Assessment – Presentation of Portfolio/Videos
• Module 7:  Small Entrepreneur Development
• Module 8:  Financial Management of Small Business
• Module 9:  How to Operate a Small Business
• Module 10: Digital Marketing & Branding

N.B. Each Module consists of two (2) classes/ four (4) hours

Course Cost

Tuition is free of charge, but trainees are required to provide their own training materials and equipment.

Assessment Structure  

A model of continuous in-course assessment coupled with a final assessment project is proposed for this course. Trainees will be assessed at different intervals over the training period as continuous assessment is focused to reduce anxiety with respect to the finality of testing. This assessment method, therefore, enhances learning since trainees will be able to remediate weaknesses before each module ends.
